Behind the Scenes: Capturing the Magic of Bucerias’ Golden Zone

It began with an idea.

I was thinking about how the "snowbirds" migrate down from chilly northern climates each year, making their way to Bucerias, Mexico. That pattern—so full of life, color, and change—inspired me to capture the spirit of Bucerias' Golden Zone by focusing on the things people love most: the food, the drinks, the weather, the beach, and most importantly, the people.

When I discovered I could use an AI voice generator to read my script in a tone similar to the legendary BBC documentarian David Attenborough, I knew I had something special. That classic nature documentary style, layered over the vibrance of Bucerias life, would be a fun, fresh way to tell the story.

With that in mind, I began filming—starting with the migration. I spent five early mornings capturing the quiet energy of the Golden Zone as it slowly came alive. I watched as visitors and locals moved between cafés, galleries, and beach chairs—crossing Lázaro Cárdenas like birds across an open sky. There were a few curious (and awkward) looks from passersby, but the footage was worth it.

The hatman of Bucerias

That intro was only the beginning. I knew the video needed more depth—more of the real Bucerias—so I started talking to the people who make this town what it is.

Local legends like Issy, who’s been selling fresh coffee from the back of his car for years. And of course, Hatman (not Batman), who sells hats from his van and delivers one-liners in English, Spanish, and French. Their colorful personalities really brought the video to life, offering just a glimpse of the vibrant conversations and warmth that visitors can expect when they spend time here.

And then, there was the food.

While many travel vloggers pass through Bucerias and highlight their go-to meals, I wanted to take a more personal approach. Since we know many of the restaurant owners, it felt natural to focus not just on the plates, but on the people behind them. That connection makes the food feel more meaningful—it’s not just what you’re eating, it’s who you’re supporting.

To be honest, we may have put on a few kilos sampling all of these local favorites:

  • Panino's

  • La Cocina de Jorge

  • Tacos Linda

  • Café de Bucerías

  • La Postal

  • Palma Bakehouse

  • Casa de Pan

  • Red Apple Place

  • Delicias Mexicanas

  • Armando’s Place

  • La Negra

  • Marcolino Pasta, Pizza y Vino

  • Karen’s Place

  • The Backyard

  • Bar Chelata

  • La Comalita

  • Pepa & Lola

(And more... but you'll have to watch the video!)

Since we couldn’t possibly include every favorite in a single episode, we also created the Bucerías Guide—our free downloadable resource that goes beyond the video. It includes more restaurants, local events, tips and tricks, and insider knowledge to help visitors make the most of their time here.

This video was truly a labor of love—something I’m proud of not just as a creator, but as a member of this community. And there’s more to come. We’ll be highlighting other parts of Bucerias soon, each with its own flavor and character.

Thanks for watching, reading, and being part of this journey.

See you around town!
